Banglar Awas Yojana is a housing scheme introduced by West Bengal Government in 2021. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has planned this initiative to work towards providing housing facilities to the economically weaker section.
Through this rural scheme, the State Government will facilitate free-of-cost houses to the poor and needy people. This initiative was inspired by Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana of the Central Government. Read on to know all the details about Banglar Awas Yojana.
Many families in West Bengal do not have their own houses. This scheme’s primary objective is to offer pucca houses to the EWS families.
The eligible applicants will get Rs. 1,20,000 from West Bengal Government to construct their pucca house. This scheme will provide the total sum in 3 equal instalments:
Note: West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia and Jungle Mahal districts, the eligible families will receive Rs. 1,30,000.

The sanction for Siliguri Mahakuma and all 22 districts has been presented before the district authorities, who in turn would identify beneficiaries in accordance with their applications.

Banglar Awas Yojana (BAY) is a praiseworthy social welfare drive of the West Bengal State Government. Houseless families and individuals living in dilapidated or kutcha houses can now avail houses having at least 25 square meter floor area and clean cooking space. 1. Is there any provision for Sanatan Brahmin Priests under BAY?
Yes, Sanatan Brahmin Priests will get free houses under Banglar Awas Yojana. Nearly 8,000 of them who work at various temples can opt for this benefit. Additionally, they will qualify for a monthly allowance worth Rs. 1,000.
2. How will the beneficiaries of BAY receive the instalment amounts?
Instalment amounts for the scheme’s beneficiaries will be transferred to their registered bank accounts directly. Besides, every beneficiary will receive wages worth Rs. 213 each day for 95 days under the MGNREGA scheme. This wage represents the labour cost to construct a house.
3. What is the target house count of BAY?
The West Bengal State Budget for FY 2021-22 proposed roughly Rs. 5,384 crore, with a goal to construct nearly 9,00,000 new houses under BAY. The beneficiaries will get sanction certificates on Banglar Awas Bitaran Divas.
4. How many houses are already built under BAY scheme?
Under this flagship scheme, nearly 38.31 lakh houses were built between FY 2010-11 and FY 2020-21, with a total expenditure of Rs. 47,097 crore. This includes 8.80 lakh houses in FY 2020-21, which is the highest among all Indian states.
