Know More About Navi Next 50 Index Fund

What is the Nifty Next 50 Index Fund?

The Nifty Next 50 index funds are passively-managed mutual funds that track and mirror the Nifty Next 50 index in a bid to offer investors returns that closely match the performance of the index. Investing in Nifty Next 50 gives investors access to the stocks of some of the top Indian companies at a lower cost.

How does the Nifty Next 50 Index Fund Work?

Since the Nifty Next 50 index fund is a passively-managed fund, the fund manager doesn’t actively participate in stock selections. However, the fund manager is responsible for creating a portfolio that mirrors the components of the Nifty Next 50 index. The fund then tracks the index with the aim to offer investors returns that closely match the performance of the underlying index - the Nifty Next 50.

How is the Nifty Next 50 Index constructed?

The Nifty Next 50 represents the next 50 companies after the top 50 companies listed on the Nifty 100. The Nifty 100 Index is the index of the 100 largest Indian companies by full market capitalisation in the National Stock Exchange. Thus, the Nifty Next 50 Index represents the weighted average of companies ranging from 51st to 100th position.

The companies are ranked by free-float market capitalisation forming part of the Nifty 100 Index. The index represents almost 10% of the free float market capitalisation of the stocks listed on the NSE as on March 29, 2019.

What are two different plans in the Navi Nifty Next 50 Index Fund?

You can invest in the Navi Nifty Next 50 Index Fund via direct or regular plans.

Navi Nifty Next 50 Direct Growth Plan

A direct plan involves buying mutual fund units directly from the fund house or AMC (Asset ManagementCompany). This eliminates any brokerage-related additional fee. However, a direct plan is suited for those who understand what kind of mutual funds are needed for different kinds of investment needs, are capable of researching these independently and able to shortlist the funds to invest in.

Navi Nifty Next 50 Regular Growth Plan

A regular plan involves buying mutual fund units through a broker. However, you might have to pay a brokerage fee if you’re investing in regular plans. This is why regular plans have a higher expense ratio than direct plans. Having a higher expense ratio could eat into your returns. That being said, a regular plan could suit beginner investors looking for sound advice regarding mutual fund scheme selection.
