The Government of Gujarat launched the Mukhyamantri Amrutum (MA) Yojana on 4 September 2012 to provide BPL (Below Poverty Line) families access to quality medical and surgical care. The scheme was meant to address the problem of many Indian households being pushed into poverty due to increased costs of healthcare spending. Over the due course of time, the insurance scheme has expanded to cover lower-middle-class families in Gujarat as well. This holistic health scheme provides full coverage from the initial diagnosis to post-hospitalisation expenses to MA cardholders.

High sum assured
The scheme provides a sum assured of Rs. 300,000 to every eligible family every year on a family floater basis. For procedures like kidney transplant, kidney+pancreas transplant and liver transplant, the scheme offers benefits of up to Rs. 500,000.
Covers various medical expenses
It provides cover for all sorts of medical and related expenses, including medicines, surgery, admission charges, diagnostics, hospital registration, post-surgery and travel expenses.
Vast coverage
Those who are eligible for the scheme can get cashless facilities for 698 defined procedures and follow-up treatments. These include cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases, neonatal diseases, renal diseases, cancer (malignancies), burns, polytrauma, knee and hip replacement surgeries, Covid-19 etc.
Knee and hip replacement procedures

This scheme covers the knee and hip-replacement procedures with a cap of Rs. 40,000 for each replacement.
Travel expenses
The MA Yojana provides Rs. 300 as travel expenses every time someone gets treatment from an empanelled hospital.
Death allowance
In case of the beneficiary’s death, the policy pays Rs. 6 per km as transportation allowances for repatriation of remains.

Cashless treatment facilities
The state government issues MA cards to BPL beneficiaries for cashless treatment at private hospitals. For people in lower-income groups, they issue MA Vatsalya cards offering the same benefits.

Mukhyamantri Amrutum Yojana has a massive disease list covering around 698 defined diseases and treatment procedures. Anyone eligible for the scheme will get coverage under the following medical departments.

Note that you cannot download the MA Amrutum card online. You need to go to the enrolment centre and fill out the MA Vatsalya card application form (which could be in Gujarati) with the correct details. Once the details are verified, the MA Amrutum card will be issued. You can visit the enrolment centre to check the status of your MA health card.

The Mukhyamantri Amrutum card is valid for 3 years. So, as a beneficiary, you need to renew the card every three years to get access to MA Yojana scheme benefits. MAA card renewal is a fairly simple process. You could renew the MA health card either by calling the customer care number or visiting the appointed kiosk.

You can download the Mukhyamantri Amrutum app on your Android phone via the play store. You can use the app to search for empanelled hospitals under MA Yojana. The app could be beneficial during any medical emergency in your family. In any emergency situations that require immediate medical treatment or attention, you could use the app to find the nearest network/empanelled hospital.
If there’s any medical emergency in your family and you want to avail yourself of the benefits of the MA Yojana scheme, you need to visit one of the empanelled hospitals. You can get cashless claim benefits under the MA Yojana scheme only through network hospitals. Ans: A total of 5 members are covered under Mukhyamantri Amrutum Yojana. However, in the case of a newborn child, the newborn would be considered as the 6th member.
Ans: There’s no waiting period for the MA Yojana scheme. You can get access to all the MA Amrutum health card benefits on the day of the commencement of the scheme.
