In case you are not sure whether your Aadhaar number has been linked with your bank account, you can also use UIDAI’s website to check the same. The process involves the below-mentioned steps:
Go to the online portal of UIDAI
Hover on ‘My Aadhaar’. A dropdown menu will appear. Under ‘Aadhaar Services’ click on the ‘Check Aadhaar/ Bank Linking Status’ option.
You will be redirected to another page. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the security code. Next, click on ‘Send OTP’’ to receive a one-time password on your phone number.
Enter the correct OTP to log in. Here, you will get to see the bank account and Aadhaar linking status.
Owing to the Central Government’s Digital India movement and technological advancements, it is beneficial to link Aadhaar with a bank account and it takes just a few minutes to do so. You may opt for online or offline procedures at your convenience. With a range of benefits available to account holders, Aadhaar and bank account linking are one of the first steps that one must take after opening a bank account and enjoy the benefits it brings.
Ans: When you link Aadhaar with your bank account, UIDAI sends only your Aadhaar number, name, and biometrics to the bank. However, note that the bank does not share your account details with the government body.
Ans: Aadhaar is a preferred KYC document for all banking services. However, if you wish to submit other documents instead of Aadhaar for your bank account activities, you are free to do so. Aadhaar linking to a bank is mandatory only if you wish to receive subsidies or benefits under the government’s schemes.
Ans: You can link as many bank accounts as you want with your Aadhaar. However, if you are eligible to receive subsidies, you will get those in only one such account. The government will consider the latest bank account that you seed with your Aadhaar number when crediting subsidies.
Ans: You cannot check whether all your bank accounts are linked with Aadhaar using UIDAI’s website. Through that website, you will only find information regarding the latest account linked. To know whether your other accounts are linked, you must check with the relevant banks.
Ans: Linking your bank account and Aadhaar is possible via SMS only if your bank offers this service. Ask your bank about the SMS format and the number to which you must send this message. After sending the SMS, you should receive an acknowledgement message from the bank notifying you that the linking is complete.
Anyone with a valid Aadhaar card and bank account number is eligible for linking his/her Aadhaar number with the bank account. As per government mandate, it is now compulsory to link your Aadhaar number with bank account numbers.
