Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer Ola Electric is planning to launch a cost-effective e-scooter variant this Diwali, The Economic Times reported Monday. “According to sources, the new scooter will cost less than ₹80,000, making it one of the most reasonably priced e-scooters in the country,” the report added.
“Last year, Ola Electric had introduced the S1 electric scooter at a price point of Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. Company’s current products, Ola S1 and S1 Pro, positioned as the most advanced scooters, include the most popular MoveOS features such as music playback, navigation, companion application, and reverse mode, among others,” the report also mentioned.
“Planning something BIG”
Ola Co-Founder and CEO Bhavish Agarwal tweeted Sunday, “Our Diwali event will be on 22nd Oct. One of the biggest announcements ever from Ola. See you soon!”. Last week he had also tweeted, “Planning something BIG for our launch event this month!”
The Road Ahead
The company also plans to launch an electric car in the next couple of years with a driving range of 500 km per charge, The ET report mentioned.
“Ola claims that it sells 1,000 scooters a day, however, a rash of fires involving electric scooters in India, including one manufactured by SoftBank-backed Ola Electric, is raising safety concerns among some buyers,” the report added.
