AIN (Account Identification Number) is a unique 7-digit number that the Directorate of the Income Tax System provides to every account office. Each accounts office mandatorily needs to have an AIN while they submit Form 24G.
The following sections below include a detailed discussion about PAN AIN Registration.
Accounts offices or AO are government entities, including the Pay and Accounts Office, District, Cheque Drawing and Disbursing Office, and District Treasury Office. As mentioned, each AO requires an AIN for Form 24G submission. They can register their Account Information Number online. After successful registration, they can log in with the credentials.
You can also apply for an Accounts Identification Number offline through the application form for the allotment of AIN. Once the AIN is provided, it will be informed to the CDDO/PAO/DTO through email or by letter to the address available on the application form.
To register for PAN AIN online through the NSDL website, you can refer to the following step-by-step guide:
Step 1
First, go to the official website of TIN-NSDL.
Step 2
On the Services tab, click on ‘Online AIN Registration’ and then ‘Steps to Register AIN’. Click on the given link for registration of AIN.
Step 3
Fill out all mandatory fields in the online AIN registration form. This includes your AIN, name of account office, ministry, sub-ministry, department, PAO code etc.
Step 4
Next, fill out your account office’s contact details and address.
Step 5
Enter the details of Form 24G and AIN account and click on ‘Submit’.
Step 6
On the next confirmation screen, select ‘Confirm’.
Once the process is complete, you will receive a 12-digit registration number. You can take a printout of this acknowledgement slip for future references.
Here are the details you need to provide in the online application form for the Account Identification Number registration form.
To apply for AIN via the offline method, you have to go through these steps:
Step 1
Visit the Income Tax Department.
Step 2
Take the application form and fill it out in the prescribed format. You can also download this application form from the web portal of the IT Department.
Step 3
After correctly filling out this application form, you have to sign it and submit it to jurisdictional CIT.
Step 4
The concerned CIT is going to verify this application form. After verification, they will forward it to NSDL.
Step 5
NSDL will provide an AIN after receiving a verified application form for AIN allotment.
Finally, when the allotment is complete, the PAO/DTO/CDDO will communicate the same either through email or by letter.
