The Aadhaar card is an important document required by every Indian as it serves as proof of identity, date of birth proof and residential address proof. It is required for filing income tax returns, opening a bank account and getting government subsidies. If you do not have an Aadhaar card already, you need to find an Aadhaar card enrollment centre nearby.
UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has authorised banks, post offices and government offices to carry out Aadhaar services. You can visit one of these places to enrol for a new Aadhaar card or apply for changes/corrections in your existing Aadhaar card details.
So, where can you find an Aadhaar enrolment centre? To know this and more, read the following sections.
Latest Update
UIDAI recently announced that people, whose Aadhaar cards were issued more than 10 years ago, can update their demographic details on myAadhaar portal for FREE from 15th March, 2023 to 30th June, 2023.
Enrolment centres are entities hired by Registrars to provide enrolment services and collect biometric and demographic data. These agencies must abide by the code of conduct, policies, guidelines set up by the authority. Enrolment agencies are responsible for the operations and maintenance of enrolment centres.
Aadhaar services are available across 35,000 banks, post offices, state government offices and BSNL centres. Permanent enrolment centres are established on a full-time basis to carry out enrolment and update services.
Temporary enrolment centres are operated by non-empanelled agencies and operate on a contractual basis. Most temporary centres have ceased operations nowadays as the government has shifted their operations to government or bank premises.
Aadhaar Seva Kendras or ASKs are a new type of enrolment centre that serves as a single one-stop destination for all Aadhaar-related services. These dedicated centres are open all 7 days of a week from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM IST.
ASKs allow residents to book an appointment for a queue-free experience and an automated token system for walk-in applicants. These centres have air-conditioners and special provisions for the elderly or the differently-abled.
