PMKSY Full Form

The full form of PMKSY is Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana. Launched on 1st July, 2015 with the motto of “Har Khet Ko Paani, PMKSY aims to expand the cultivated areas of India through assured irrigation, improved water use efficiency and reduction of water wastage. The initiative strives to harness rainwater for better irrigation.

Objectives of PMKSY

The primary objectives of PMKSY are:

• Enhance accessibility of water in farm fields
• Expand cultivable area with assured irrigation
• Improve water usage efficiency
• Ensure the integrated development of rainfed areas using the watershed approach towards soil conservation
• Adopt more water-saving technologies

Functions of PMKSY

The functionalities of PMKSY include:

• Improving water use efficiency – ‘More crop per drop’ – in a focused manner
• Creating a holistic ecosystem to save water
• Enable states to draw up a District Irrigation Plan (DIP) and a State Irrigation Plan (SIP)
