The following are the rituals followed during Hartalika puja:
- Hartalika Teej is celebrated on the third day of the Shukla Paksha. Big processions carrying the clay idols of Parvati take place in different parts of India on this day. Camels and elephants escort the idol, thereby, turning the entire procession more attractive. In some places, fairs are arranged on the occasion of Hartalika Teej.
- As a part of the ritual, married women prefer to return to their parent’s homes to celebrate Teej. To celebrate this special day, a woman dresses as a bride. In the evening, they offer homemade sweets to Goddess Parvati along with some fresh fruits and green vegetables. After the completion of puja in the evening, women touch their husband’s feet and seek blessings.
- Puja ends with the telling of the Hartalika Teej Vrat Katha. Women pray to lead a happy married life. After all the rituals, they have a meal of rice patolis and jaggery on banana leaves along with mixed vegetables.
