The Government of India has made it compulsory for Indian citizens to register their mobile number with aadhaar card. Though the process of aadhaar card mobile number update isn’t available online, you can visit any nearby aadhaar enrolment centre to register or update your mobile number. In the following sections, we have simplified how to change mobile number in aadhaar.

UIDAI recently announced that people, whose Aadhaar cards were issued more than 10 years ago, can update their demographic details on myAadhaar portal for FREE from 15th March, 2023 to 30th June, 2023.
Follow the steps below to understand adhaar card mobile number update process:
Visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre to kickstart the process. You can locate your nearby enrolment centre via the UIDAI website. You can search by ‘State’ and Postal (PIN) code.
Next, you would need to collect and fill out the aadhaar card mobile number update form.Make sure that all the details provided are correct without any discrepancies.
Re-check the details and submit the form to the aadhaar executive. This is free of charge. But for a biometric update, you will have to pay a fee of ₹100.
The executive would hand over a slip containing the Update Request Number (URN) to you. You can use the URN to view the status of your application.
Expect your mobile number to be updated in the UIDAI database within 90 days once the aadhaar mobile number update process is completed.
The process is similar to mobile number update in aadhaar. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Visit your nearby aadhaar enrolment centre.
Step 2: Collect the aadhaar enrolment form.
Step 3: Fill out the aadhaar card mobile number update form details and add your mobile number
Step 4: Submit the details to the aadhaar enrolment executive
Step 5: The executive would authenticate the details and add them to the biometrics
Step 6: You need to pay a fee of ₹100 for a biometrics update. If you’re adding your number for the first time, the process is free of cost.
Once done, your mobile number would be added and linked to the aadhaar card within 90 days.
Currently, you cannot apply for aadhaar card mobile number update online. The entire process of aadhaar card mobile number update is carried out offline. Follow the steps mentioned above to change or update your aadhaar-linked mobile number.
There are two ways to check aadhaar card mobile number linking – via UIDAI and via Telecom and Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAFCOP – available in select states)
Step 1: Visit the official website of UIDAI
Step 2: Go to ‘May Aadhaar’ section
Step 3: Go to ‘Aadhaar Services’ from the dropdown menu and select ‘Verify/Mobile Number’
Step 4: Enter your aadhaar number and mobile number
Step 5: Enter CAPTCHA and click on ‘Send OTP’
If your mobile number is linked, you would see the text “The mobile you have entered already verified with our records.”
If the aadhaar and the mobile number isn’t linked, you would need to visit the nearest enrolment centre to initiate the process.
Step 1: Visit the TAFCOP official portal
Step 2: Enter your mobile number to receive OTP
Step 3: If your mobile number is linked, you will receive the OTP
Step 4: You can check the numbers associated with the aadhaar card via the portal
If your aadhaar card is not linked to the mobile number, if you have to visit any nearby aadhaar enrolment centre to change mobile number in aadhaar.
You need to follow these steps when your phone number is not registered with your Aadhaar card:
Step 1: Visit an Aadhaar Enrolment/ Update Centre.
Step 2: Collect an Aadhaar card mobile number update form and fill it up with necessary information.
Step 3: Here, you will not have to enter the previous contact number; just enter the new one.
Step 4: After the registration of your application request, you will receive an acknowledgement slip comprising the URN.
Step 5: To complete the process, pay a fee to the executive, and your number will be updated.
You will be able to access UIDAI services if your mobile number is linked to aadhaar, including the mAadhaar app, Other than this, you will also be able to apply for new PAN card, access aadhaar facilities, mobile re-verification, Umang app services, online EPF claim, etc., if your phone number is linked to aadhaar.
You need to visit the aadhaar card enrolment centre to complete the aadhaar card mobile number update process. Always re-verify the details you’re providing before submitting the form.
Linking your aadhaar with mobile number could also help you get a loan during a financial crunch. If it’s linked, you can apply for an instant cash loan on your aadhaar card without any hassle.
Aadhaar card mobile number update requires biometric authentication. It cannot be done online. While submitting the aadhaar update form, the concerned enrolment centre executive would help you out in updating the details in biometrics.
You would need to carry your proof of identity documents along with a photo to the aadhar enrolment centre. These documents would be your passport, PAN card, driving licence, voter ID, Kissan passbook, pensioner card, etc. You can find the complete list here.
Only one mobile number can be registered with aadhaar card. However, there is no restriction on the number of aadhaar cards which can be linked with the same mobile number.
There are no restrictions as such in terms of mobile number update in aadhaar card as long as you can provide a valid mobile number. However, an aadhaar card holder can change their name only twice, according to UIDAI.
After you have submitted the form and completed the biometrics formalities, it might take from 30 days to 90 days to get your mobile number updated on the UIDAI database.
NRIs can visit any aadhaar kendra or enrolment centre with their valid Indian passport. Submit the enrolment form – note that disclosing email ID is mandatory.
