Udyog Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to small and medium-sized enterprises in India. Udyog Aadhaar registration was launched in 2015 to boost the nation’s MSME sector. Industries registered under Udyog Aadhaar were entitled to receive benefits like quick loans, subsidies, etc. However, since 30 June 2022, MSME Udyog Aadhaar registration has been moved to Udyam registration. Any business not migrating to Udyam registration will have to re-register in the Udyam portal.

Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum or UAM is a document that is generated after the successful registration of a Micro, Small, or Medium Enterprise (MSME) under the Udyog Aadhaar scheme. It contains the unique identification number, also known as Udyog Aadhaar Number (UAN), which is allotted to the registered enterprise.
UAM contains various details about the registered MSME, such as its name, address, type of organization, activities undertaken, bank details, and employment details. It also includes information about the promoter or owner of the enterprise, such as their name, address, Aadhaar number, and contact details.
Follow the steps below to update your Udyog Aadhaar online:
Step 1: Visit udyogaadhaar.gov.in and go to Udyam login section
Step 2: Enter your 12-digit UAM number along with the CAPTCHA and generate OTP
Step 3: Enter the OTP. You will then be able to login and update the details in your Udyog Aadhaar
Udyog Aadhaar registration has been moved to Udyam registration. Now let’s understand the key differences:
Udyog Aadhaar | Udyam Registration |
Aadhaar and PAN required for registration | Only Aadhaar card required for registration |
Registration form doesn’t require many details | Registration requires micro details such as GST, income tax, etc. |
Aadhaar phone number link not mandatory | Aadhaar – phone number link mandatory |
A bit complex process that led to Udyog Aadhaar certificate cancellation | Simple and easy registration process |
Migrating to Udyam is necessary for businesses who were earlier registered to Udyog Aadhaar. This would enable them to receive Government benefits and subsidies. Unless any entity has failed to migrate within 30 June 2022, they will have to re-register their business in Udyam. There’s no cost involved in the re-registration process.
In case you need a loan for your business, apply for a Navi Cash Loan. Get instant loans up to Rs.20 lakh in a 100% paperless manner at competitive rates and flexible repayment tenures.
Once the system has verified the Aadhaar number, you can choose your Company’s NIC code. You need to select from a three-level dropdown list. This list is displayed based on the key activity selected for your organisation, manufacturing, or service sector.
In the event of a discrepancy or complaint, the general manager of the district industry centre in the affected district will investigate. This is to confirm the details of the Udyam registration submitted by the Company. Then they will refer the issue to the relevant director, nominee, or industry secretary of the state government with the necessary supporting documents. The state government will notify the Company, allow them to file a proceeding, and then amend the details or ministry based on the findings. The Government of India may recommend cancelling the Udyam registration certificate for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The process is registered online, and the Udyog Aadhaar certificate is evaluated in a digital form. The process is fast, and it is also guaranteed that only real companies will be registered. If you have a technical problem, it can take up to a day. But, usually, the process is completed within hours and given to the business owner.
Both are the same. However, Udyog Aadhaar’s MSME must register for Udyog Aadhaar. Any organisation, not just MSME, can register for Udyog Aadhaar. It is a unique identifying system provided by the government to SMEs. There are numerous government initiatives available to small and medium-sized businesses. However, not all businesses can make use of them. It is easily accessible to those who have registered for Udyog Udyog Aadhaar.
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are eligible for Udyog Aadhaar registration in India. The eligibility criteria for MSMEs vary depending on the sector of the business and the type of enterprise.
Udyog Aadhaar could be used for MSME registration, access to government schemes and benefits, easy access to credit in form of loans, GST registration, trade licence registration, etc.
At the time of its launch, any entity with Udyog Aadhaar certificate would enjoy lifelong validity of Aadhaar Udyog. However, Udyog Aadhaar has been discontinued and migrated to Udyam. Currently, MSMEs have to either migrate or re-register to Udyam.
Any MSME can start a business with Udyog Aadhaar portal only if it’s related to the manufacturing or service sector. However, businesses should meet the turnover and investment threshold as mentioned in the Udyog Aadhaar eligibility criteria to get registered on the portal
For Udyam registration, you may need to provide your Aadhaar and bank details.
You can use Udyog Aadhaar for GST registration, trade license registration, etc.
Like Udyog Aadhaar registration, Udyam registration is free of cost.
