PAN card correction can be done online in two ways. Either you submit your application on the Protean eGov (formerly NSDL) website and follow the necessary formalities or do it from the UTIITSL website. Let us look at both one by one:
Visit the official web portal of NSDL e-Governance
You can select and click on PAN from the full list of options
Navigate to the ‘‘Change/Correction in PAN Data’’ section and click on “Apply’’
Once you click on apply, you will be taken to a new page. Go to “Application Type” and select the “Changes or Correction in the existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card” option. Similarly, from the ‘Category’ dropdown menu, select the correct category that you belong to. For example, if the PAN is registered in your name, choose “Individual” from the dropdown menu.
Enter your name, mobile number, email ID, and PAN number. Recheck the details entered and make sure they are 100% accurate.
Once you enter the Captcha and click on submit, your request will be recorded and a Token Number will be sent to the registered email ID.
Proceed further with the process by clicking on the button given below.
You will now be redirected to the PAN correction form. Now, click on the ‘Submit scanned images through e-Sign on NSDL e-gov’ options.
Enter all the relevant details, such as father’s name, Aadhaar number, mother’s name, and tap on ‘Next’.
Now, proceed to the ‘Document Details’ page and upload scanned images of your PAN along with supporting documents which validate your address, identity, and date of birth.
Before you submit your application, you will have to validate the details provided by checking the self-declaration box. Once you submit the PAN card update form, you will reach the payments page. You can pay the PAN card correction fees through any preferred mode – credit card, debit card, net banking, or demand draft.
You will receive an acknowledgement slip after successful payment. Take a printout of this slip. Send all the required documents along with this slip to Income Tax PAN Services Unit at the following address:

Your address is not displayed on the PAN Card. However, you will need to mention it in the PAN Card application form, provided you want a physical copy of your new PAN to be delivered to your registered postal address. If you have filled your PAN card correction form online and have authenticated it with Aadhaar OTP, you won’t be able to update your address. The address mentioned in your Aadhaar database, will be considered as your default address and the card will be sent to the same place.
If you want to update your address in the PAN application form, you will first have to change the address in the Aadhaar card database and then update it in the 49A correction form.
To change the address in the PAN Card update form, you will first have to download Form 49A. Once you fill it up and indicate the address change, you will have to submit it at your nearest NSDL correction centre. Let us reiterate that your address won’t appear on your PAN card. But, if you want a physical copy of your new PAN to be delivered to your place, you will have to mention it in your form and submit the 49A correction form.
Indian citizens, who wish to apply for a new PAN, must fill out and mandatorily submit Form 49A at any of the NSDL collection centre. So, to sum it up, no PAN card allotment can happen without submission of Form 49A.
If you want to download the form, click here.
