Who is Subhash Chandra Bose?

Subhash Chandra Bose was a prominent leader in India during the period of British authority. He was born into a wealthy family and received a specialised education centred around England. He then went to England and took the examination for Indian Civil Services. He returned to India in 1921 and joined the nationalist movement, which was led by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress. 

Bose became president of Congress in 1938 but resigned after a disagreement with other leaders over non-violence and other plans for himself. In April 1941, Bose went to Nazi Germany, where he received support for India’s independence and formed the Free India Legion. The legion is believed to have around 3,000 strong individuals.

In 1942, he moved to southeast Asia, and with the support of Japan, formed the Indian National Army. However, soon after this, he unfortunately died in a plane crash in 1945. It is the place where the first hoisting of the tricolor flag of free India by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose took place. As the name suggests, the museum showcases and celebrates the contributions of Netaji in developing the Indian National Army (INA). You can also find a giant statue of Netaji near the museum. Initially founded by Captain Mohan Singh, INA’s command was later taken over by Netaji. He recruited thousands of people to fight for the freedom of India. Some politicians also demanded to declare his birthday as Deshanayak Divas and a national holiday. However, the Government announced on 19th January 2021, that the day would be celebrated as Parakram Divas every year. Thus, Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti was first observed as Parakram Divas in 2021 on his 124th birth anniversary.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Death 

Netaji is said to have died on August 18, 1945. Many believe he was killed in a plane crash in Japanese-ruled Formosa (now Taiwan), but others disagree.
