Aadhaar is a unique individual identification code issued by the UIDAI. This document is necessary to avail benefits related to government schemes and subsidies.
You are required to undergo multiple checks and document verifications when you apply for an Aadhaar card. If you are planning to register for Aadhaar, then follow the step-by-step guide mentioned in the following section.
You need to visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre to apply for an Aadhaar card. Here’s what you need to do:
You can locate the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre with the help of the official UIDAI website. Visit the website and click on ‘Locate Enrolment and Update Centres in Other Cities’. Then select the State, Pin Code and provide details about your district, village, town or locality.
Once you provide the necessary data, you will get the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra location. In addition, the website will also offer information about updates and enrolments done in the past 30 days at this centre. Note that enrolment is done free of charge.
Once you find an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre near you, you can either directly visit the centre or make an appointment online through the website. However, you have to take multiple supporting documents required for an Aadhaar application. These documents include:
• Proof of identity documents: Voter ID card, PAN card, Driving license, Ration card, NREGS job card, Kissan passbook, ECHS card, Freedom Fighter card, Government-issued ID cards and more.
• Proof of address documents: Passport, Ration card, Voter ID card, Electricity bill (not older than 3 months), Credit card statement, Insurance policy, Pensioner card, Vehicle registration certificate, Passport of spouse and others.
• Proof of relationship documents: Passport, Pensioner card, Family entitlement document, Bhamashah card, MNREGA job card, Army canteen card, PDS card, etc.
• Proof of date of birth documents: Birth certificate, PAN card, Passport, Mark sheet issued by a recognized educational institution, and others.
If you do not possess any of the documents, you can enrol with the help of an introducer authorised by a Registrar.

• Ask for the Aadhaar enrolment form at the centre.
• Fill in the necessary information, including your name, DOB, gender, contact number and more.
• Next, your biometrics details will be taken. Biometrics will include a photograph of your face with fingerprint impressions (all 10) and a scan of the iris. Children below the age of 5 are not required to provide any biometrics. However, their guardians need to submit the Aadhaar cards.
• Once biometrics is provided, check all provided details carefully to make sure they are free of errors.
• Submit the form and take the acknowledgement slip for future references.
This slip will consist of a 28-digit EID with which you can track Aadhaar card status conveniently.
You will get your new Aadhaar card within 90 days of enrolment. It will be delivered to your address through India Post. However, if you want to get the card beforehand, you can download it online. To download an electronic copy of your Aadhaar (also known as e-Aadhaar), you can follow these steps:

The process to apply for Aadhaar remains the same for adult individuals, senior citizens and children across the country. However, make sure to provide genuine information along with necessary supporting documents during Aadhaar card registration.
